As summer melts away in San Clemente, we’ve seen a classic car show, July 4 fireworks, an ocean festival, a fiesta, a series of summer beach concerts and an annual arts and crafts fair.

For the first time in a decade, Capistrano Unified schools are returning to classes before Labor Day. The district has set this past Tuesday as the first day of school. But there’s still lots of San Clemente fun ahead as summer turns to fall. Extracted from the OCRegister:

In August:

Concert and movie in the park: At 6 p.m. Aug. 28, Linda Lane Park hosts a free concert by the local band Wigs and Ties followed by a free outdoor screening of “The Lego Movie,” presented by the city recreation department. Popcorn and food will be available, and free children’s activities. The park is at 400 Linda Lane, by the beach.

In September:

See surfing’s best: The World Surf League brings the planet’s best surfers to San Clemente’s doorstep Sept. 9-20 for the Hurley Pro at Lower Trestles. Competition will be held on the 4-5 best anticipated days of surf. Admission is free, apart from San Onofre State Beach parking fees off Basilone Road. See worldsurfleague.org.

Surf talk: Pro surfer Rob Machado discusses “Expanding the Definition of Pro Surfing,” 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Historic Cottage at San Clemente State Beach, 225 Avenida Calafia. Advance tickets $10 atsanonofrefoundation.org, $15 at the door.

Skate tournament: Friends of San Clemente Foundation presents the 15th annual San Clemente Open skateboard contest and vendor fair, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 26 at Ralphs Skate Court, 241 Avenida La Pata. Admission is free. Skater registration is $35. Seefriendsofsanclemente.org.

Toast to the Casa: “A Slice in Time ... When Citrus was King” is the theme for this year’s gala fundraiser, 5:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, 415 Avenida Granada, featuring food and wines from more than 30 restaurants and vintners, live music by the American Bandstand Gang and live/silent auctions. Tickets are $175 before Sept. 1, $200 thereafter. See casaromantica.org.

In October:

San Clemente Seafest: The Chamber of Commerce presents the community’s annual chowder cookoff paired with a surf contest, business expo, arts and crafts exhibit, children’s entertainment and more, 9a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 4 at the pier, Avenida Del Mar at Avenida Victoria. Carnival Colossal: The Friends of San Clemente Foundation presents a four-day carnival Oct. 8-11 at Vista Hermosa Sports Park, 987 Avenida Vista Hermosa, featuring rides, games, live entertainment food trucks and more. Admission is free. Rides, carnival games, food extra. Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 5 to midnight Friday, 1 p.m. to midnight Saturday and 1 to 10 p.m. Sunday. See friendsofsanclemente.org.
