This next Saturday September 15th, is California Coastal Cleanup Day, which is a great initiative and an annual campaign to remove trash and debris from beaches and inland waterways, and our South OC cities are prepared with events at many locations between 8 a.m. and noon. If you would like to participate in the initiative, there's five places to choose from in  Dana Point: 

Doheny State Beach,the Marine Protected Area behind the Ocean Institute, Salt Creek Beach and two locations at the harbor, including underwater.

DOHENY STATE BEACH: Meet at the lifeguard headquarters. Bring your own bags, bucket, gloves, boots and water bottle. There will be free parking for volunteers – just show your gear at the gate and say you're participating in the cleanup. Snacks will be provided.

DANA POINT HARBOR CIGARETTE BUTT ROUNDUP: Dana Point Harbor, near Jolly Roger, 34675 Golden Lantern. Meet at the promenade area in front of Dana Wharf Sport Fishing & Whale Watching. There will be free parking from 9 a.m. to noon at the Dana Wharf and Mariners Village lots.Volunteers younger than 18 need adult supervision and signed parental consent. Bring your own bucket or bags (bags will be available if you forget).

DANA POINT HARBOR UNDERWATER CLEANUP : Harbor gangways E-H, 24705 Dana Drive. Free parking will be available at 8 a.m. at the East Basin Island lot.Participants must have a current open-water or equivalent dive certification (PADI, NAUI or equivalent). Those younger than 18 must have signed parental consent.The $20 registration fee includes a T-shirt, food and beverage. You can register in advance at Dana Point Marina Co., 34555 Casitas Place, 949-496-6137, or Beach Cities Scuba, 34283 Pacific Coast Highway, 949-443-3858. Register Saturday at the East Basin Island parking lot, 24705 Dana Drive.

DANA POINT MARINE PROTECTED AREA: Meet behind the Ocean Institute, 24200 Dana Point Harbor Drive.

SALT CREEK BEACH : Meet at the parking lot at 33333 S. Pacific Coast Highway.

SAN CLEMENTE PIER: meet at 615 Avenida Victoria, San Clemente, 92672 . All ages welcome

SAN CLEMENTE STATE BEACH: meet at 225 W. Avenida Calafia, San Clemente, CA 92672 All Ages welcome.

SAN ONOFRE STATE BEACH: Meeting Location: San Onofre Surf Beach, and all ages are welcomed.
